The most basic bob hairstyle is usually cut at the bottom of the ear’s length, all around the head, with hair ends curling inward. However, since the style is so simple and does not compliment all of the face shapes, in the 1960s new bob style was introduced. Its name often causes misunderstandings. Sometimes it is called a graduated bob, because if you move from the back of the head to the front hair is gradually becoming longer. Hair stylist often called this cut inverted bob, because hair are cut in a way that adds weight to the upper parts, and thus inverts the classic weight, which lies on hair ends. There are few different names for this kind of bob cuts and they emphasize other characteristics of the hairstyle. A-line bob for example is a bob cut with longer hair in the front and often a short fringe; it can also be longer in the back of the head.
Inverted bob can be also layered or stacked, and both of these names refer to the way the haircut is created. Short layered bob haircut consists of hair sections cut at different length to add volume and movement to the hairstyle. If the hair is layered and short in the back, making the crown area a lot more voluminous, this kind of hairstyle is called stacked bob.
